Property Description

This unique and enchanting property is part of the historic buildings of Cerne Abbey, formed as Benedictine House in 987 AD, overlooking the abbey courtyard with large gardens nearby. The abbey itself is privately owned, and guests can enjoy the grounds and wander freely. The property is in the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, famed for its dominating chalk carving of the Cerne Giant - thought to be carved in the hillside some 1500 years ago. Tucked away within the beauty of the Dorset Hills, miles of lovely walks can be enjoyed, including the village trail. Puddletown, Tolpuddle and Thomas Hardy’s picturesque Piddle Valley are within easy reach. Travelling further afield are miles of sandy beaches and some of Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. Shop and three pubs serving excellent food, 100 yards.

The local amenities were excellent - 3 pubs, all good for eating at, and a small supermarket which stocked everything we needed. The large corner bath was wonderful!   6. Quiet and comfortable in an excellent village. Good food at two of the three locals (other not tried), and in local teashop. Easy access to parking at property, which in itself was on an interesting site. May 2011.
  7. Cosy cottage tucked away behind the main house, although not the cleanest or best equipped property we have ever stayed in it all added to the overall charm of the property. Fantastic location and the use of a large garden, shared with the chickens. Village has three good pubs, one of which does excellent food. Nearby is Beaminster home of 2009 masterchef winner Mat Follas and his Wild Garlic restaurant, give it a try. May 2011.

  16. The ambiance of this cottage is unmatched. Location is great, three pubs nearby, many more in immediate surroundings. Friendly and helpful owners, friendly and hungry cats, curious squirrels and robins. Nov 2009.
  17. We have been there 5 or 6 times before. It is like going home. Everything is always clean and tidy, flowers on the table, cups and saucers for a cup of tea etc. Just the little touches. Oct 2009.
  18. Beautiful surroundings, quiet, comfortable. The cottage’s only drawback was the corner bath which is very big and is difficult to get out of for older people. A shower would be a better option. Oct 2009.

  20. Ideally situated for visiting the stunning coast and for exploring the beautiful countryside of Dorset and south Somerset. The cottage is situated in a beautiful spot in a lovely village. It has the advantages of being quiet and "remote" yet it is, in fact, only a couple of hundred yards from a shop and three pubs. The village is perfectly situated for exploring the Dorset countryside and coast. Aug 2009.
