This attractive 19th-century holiday cottage, adjoining another property, is set in the quiet village of East Ayton just below the North Yorks Moors. Comfortable, well-equipped and furnished to a high standard, it retains several original features. Its extensive secluded garden (with heated summerhouse) fronts onto the River Derwent and affords excellent views of Ayton Castle (a 14th-century ruin) and the Forge Valley. Scarborough and the east coast are 2½ miles away, attractive local villages such as Pickering, Thornton-le-Dale and Helmsley are within easy reach. Shops and pub 500 yards.

  1. Without a doubt a truly fantastic cottage, absolutely spotless & extremely well equipped. Ideal for adult families but not recommended for children between the ages of 2 to 5 only due to the property being next to an unguarded river & steps leading down to the garden area. All credit to the owners for making this property what it is. April 2012.

  4. The location was stunning as were the views from the property. The garden was fantastic according to my boys and my husband loved the fishing. One evening he spotted an otter swimming in the river! The cottage was stylish, practical and spacious. Everything we could have wished for from a cottage! Aug 2011.

  6. Very pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness,the comforts,and the quiet of this cottage. The river is closer to the house than it appears in the photo, adding much grace and interest to the property. Horses, pheasants, and hares play over the green fields just the other side of the water. Swallows fill the evening air. Aug 2011.
  7. The highest point was the garden and lovely view across the valley. This meant that, even though the weather was very mixed, we were able to enjoy the views and summer house. We did not feel the need to go out. June 2011.

  9. It was so well stocked with unexpected items (handsoaps/spare bulbs/batteries/torches/etc.) that it was obvious the property is not just a holiday let. Very thoughtful brochures/local maps [wouldn’t have bought one had I known!]. Kitchen was brilliant; every household item one could possibly want so definitely home-from-home in that respect.
