Leeds Castle Holiday Cottages - Castle View

| Ref: 27989
Grade 4 Star rating

Indulge yourself in a unique holiday cottage experience within the 500-acre parkland estate at Leeds Castle, referred to as ’The loveliest castle in the world’. It is set on two islands on the River Len in the heart of the county of Kent, renowned throughout the world as ’The Garden of England’, and has been fortified for over 900 years. Originally a Norman stronghold, the private property of 6 medieval queens and a palace used by Henry VIII. In the 1930s the castle was a playground for the the rich and famous as Lady Baillie, the last private owner entertained ’high society’ down from London for the weekends. The castle now offers visitors a glimpse of a rich past with a fine collection of art, porcelain and furniture. Within the 500-acre estate are six period holiday cottages, some furnished with antiques from the castle, and handmade drapes made by the castle seamstress. The sheets on the beds are fresh crisp Egyptian cotton and a welcome pack of toiletries is provided.
Access is given enabling entry to the castle and grounds as many times as you like during your stay.
Your ticket also provides access to the Knight’s Realm playground, where children can let off steam. Climb the Maiden’s Tower, joust along the aerial runway and explore the secret tunnels! Lose yourself in the spiralling yew maze and underworld grotto of shells and mythical beasts, plus a turf maze where toddlers and smaller children can play. Take in a free flying falconry display.
Take a picnic or stroll around the gardens which you can explore long after the daily guests to the castle and grounds have gone home. Additional activities that incur an extra cost include 9-hole golf, a hot air balloon flight (1st Apr-1st Nov), Go Ape! zip wire adventure, a Segway tour, a ride on Elsie the Castleland train or hop aboard the Black Swan Ferry Boat. Then visit the castle shop for a special gift to return home with.
Keepers House, (ref 27985), formerly the gamekeeper’s house, dates back several hundred years, and is located in a hidden valley in the castle grounds. It has a courtyard which overlooks the River Len and can be booked with adjoining Weir Cottage to accommodate up to 12 guests.
Weir Cottage (ref 27987) is a perfect riverside hideaway for a couple. It was originally the game store and can be booked with adjoining Keepers House to accommodate up to 12 guests. Fishing can be arranged for Keepers House and Weir Cottage.
Castle View (ref 27989) is a beautifully appointed 200 year old historic apartment, the upper floor of a former oast house originally used for drying hops. It is situated on a quiet lane on the western boundary of the castle estate.
Knight’s Cottage (ref 27986) is a fine example of an Edwardian cottage and is located within a secluded position within the grounds of Leeds Castle and enjoys views over the vineyard and woodland. Earl’s Cottage (ref 30376) is an Edwardian cottage dating back to the time of Lady Baillie, the last private owner of the castle. Adjacent to Knight’s Cottage, Earl’s Cottage is just a stone’s throw away from the medieval-style Knights glamping site, giving guests the choice of booking friends and family into the tents.
The Guards House (ref 27988) dates back to the Regency period from around 1810, and was originally a Napoleonic soldier’s barracks. Interconnecting with neighbouring cottages, this traditional Grade ll listed Kentish cottage has thick rag stone walls and an unusual curved wooden front door.
