Property Description

These attractive holiday cottages have been carefully renovated from former barns, and have kept many of their original features including exposed stonework. They enjoy a perfect location on the banks of the River Avon, and on the edge of the picturesque village of Bathampton, which is 2 miles from the centre of Bath. The Kennet and Avon Canal also runs through the village, enabling walkers and cyclists to easily access Bath and beyond, enjoying the pubs and tea shops along the way. Boat trips can also be taken on the river and canal. Designated as a World Heritage Site, Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge. At the heart of the city next to Bath Abbey is the Roman Baths, which gives a fascinating look into the Roman bathing complex. There is a good variety of museums and galleries, including the American Museum and the Jane Austen Centre. Festivals, theatre and street entertainment bring life and excitement to this vibrant city, and the Thermae Bath Spa with rooftop pool is a popular attraction. Bath is also a celebrated shopping centre, with many unique and independent retailers, and the variety of restaurants, bars and cafes leave guests spoilt for choice. There are many parks and gardens to relax in, away from the bustle of the city, and guided open top bus tours take you out to the perimeter of the city to enjoy the glorious views of the stunning Georgian architecture. There are many National Trust properties to visit, including Prior Park, Dyrham Park, and further afield Westwood Manor, Iford, The Courts, Stourhead and Lacock Abbey. For keen walkers and cyclists there is a dedicated 13 mile traffic-free path from the edge of Bath to Bristol, the Bath Skyline, and also The Cotswolds Way national trail. Within easy reach are the family attractions of Longleat Safari Park, the famous Gorge and Caves at Cheddar, Wookey Hole paper mill and caves. The city of Bristol is worth a visit, with its revamped harbour area, SS Great Britain, Clifton Suspension Bridge, and the vast array of shopping malls and restaurants. Glastonbury Tor and Abbey, the city of Wells and the picturesque Cotswolds are within an hour’s drive. Fishing is also available and cycle hire by prior arrangement. Shops 1 mile and pub 500 yards.

  5. We absolutely loved this little cottage, which was so well located for Bath. We were there for a short honeymoon. The woodburner was great, the kitchen well equipped and the whole place lovingly decorated. It was lovely and warm. There were two amazing pubs within a couple of hundred yards which were both lovely and great value. Bath is walkable for those who enjoy a ramble along a canal towpath and buses along the main road are frequent otherwise it is easy to drive in to all the attractions and shops. The owners were lovely and helpful when we needed them and didn’t disturb us otherwise! There was bread, milk, butter and eggs and lovely flowers waiting for us on arrival. We felt very welcome and would definitely visit again and recommend to others. Dec 2011.

  7. This was a lovely property, in a great location, very dark lane into the village along the farm road, although a torch is provided in the property, it would be advisable to take another. The local pubs are excellent and serve great food. Really relaxing holiday. Great for driving into Bath. Nov 2011.
  8. This was the ideal place for a quiet relaxing holiday. Two really good pubs within walking distance, both serving excellent food. Literally round the corner from Bath, a beautiful city, not too big and easy to find your way round. The cottage itself was extremely comfortable and clean. There were enough logs provided to last the week so no extra costs there. And the wifi was very speedy! All in all an excellent place to stay. Oct 2011.
  9. Cart Shed is ideally situated at Bathampton and near to the Kennet and Avon Canal with very easy access to Bath. The accommodation was excellent and there were lovely personal touches which we really appreciated - flowers, bread, milk and butter. The cottage is very well laid out with excellent facilities. We enjoy cycling and took our bicycles with us. There are many cycle paths in and around Bath, and of course the canal path is excellent for cycling or walking along. Aug 2011.

  11. The Cart Shed was a modern, well equipped cottage in a rural setting but only a 2 mile walk down the canal towpath to the centre of Bath. It is well served by two local pubs in Bathampton. The noise of traffic was a surprise but not too intrusive. We had an excellent week exploring Bath and the surrounding area.The owners were friendly and helpful. April 2011.
  12. The property was very handy if you wanted to sightsee in Bath over a number of days and as you could walk into Bath along the canal via the George pub it can be an enjoyable jaunt without the car. March 2011.

  14. Tastefully furnished very comfortable barn conversion within walking distance of two pubs serving good food. We walked into Bath along the canal towpath which can be found near The George Pub - takes 45-60 mins - and if you don’t want to walk from the cottage you can park in an area provided for walkers at The George.   16. High quality accommodation of a good standard, with the finishing touches of a genuinely caring host. The teabags, coffee and chocolate bars provided for our arrival were very welcome and it was so good to see washing up liquid and tea towels in the kitchen. We enjoyed the cosy comfort of the log burning stove and a hot bath in the evenings after returning from fishing on the Avon. The river is only about 100m from the property and we caught some fine chub and barbel. It was great to be so near to Bath and we managed to find an alternative route to avoid the 60p toll bridge up the road. (Turn right out of the lane instead of left!). The pub is within easy walking distance and would be a fine place to sit and watch the barges on the canal on a Summer’s evening. They also do good meals! It is very close to the A4 but the traffic noise isn’t that noticeable. Overall a delightful place to stay. Feb 2011.
