Property Description

"Stunning locations in breathtaking scenery..."

In a magnificent setting by the sea, Ardmaddy Castle sits in its own bay with unrivalled views over Seil Sound and the world famous local Slate Islands, designated one of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. Graded ‘4 Star’ by the Scottish Tourist Board, these four cottages (SBZ, SRW, SRX and SRY) and Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) are set in secluded, peaceful locations around the estate and offer an ideal base for exploring this stunning part of the West Coast of Scotland.
The castle’s spectacular gardens are open all year round through Scotland’s Gardens Scheme and are a delight for gardening enthusiasts. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife with porpoise, dolphins, basking sharks, otters, deer, eagles and wealth of seabirds often seen. Sailing, rowing and motor boats are all available for guests to hire, and there is free fishing on Ardmaddy’s stocked hill loch. There is also a central games room with table tennis, darts and a pool table, whilst Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) and The Stables (SBZ) have their own games room. Guests can also use the castle’s tennis court.
The bustling harbour town of Oban known as the ‘Gateway to the Islands’ is only 12 miles away and has wonderful seafood restaurants, shops and bars. From Oban there are boat trips to the Inner Hebridean Isles, including Mull, Iona, Staffa, Colonsay and Tiree. For the outdoor enthusiast, local activities include horse riding, coasteering, canyoning, canoeing, sailing, diving and golf. Fort William and Glencoe are a short drive away offering very popular climbing and skiing. Explore beautiful gardens and ruined castles in an area rich in historical legacy or take a leisurely walk or cycle along one of the many forest tracks. Visit Bonawe Iron Works, Cruachan Hollow Mountain, the Sealife Centre and Inveraray Jail. Or relax and enjoy the unspoilt natural beauty surrounding the cottages at Ardmaddy. Shops 12 miles, pub/restaurant 2½ miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Caddleton Farmhouse is ideal for sharing with family and friends. The property is spacious and very well furnished and equipped. The location is idyllic with wonderful views over the loch, especially as the sun sets. There are activities for wide range of interests: walk or cycle from the door; many islands to visit by car or boat trip; much bird and wildlife, flowers and fungi; tennis, riding and golf locally; good shops, restaurants and bars in Oban; excellent local pub Tigh na Truish just on Seil; lots of gardens and places to visit. The Caddleton games room (snooker, table tennis, darts) is great in evenings or inclement weather, or just sit in the conservatory reading or watching the shoreline. A perfect place to avoid lots of noise, bustle and nightlife and just relax with friends in the countryside. Beware: there is another Ardmaddy on Loch Etive, North of Oban. Don’t let your satnav take you to the wrong one! Oct 2012.
  2. The property is fantastic and it is HUGE!! Way, way above our expectations. There were 8 of us (age 3 to 50) and because the weather was so glorious the main sitting room was rarely used. The men in the party loved the games room, the dog loved the huge garden, and the children loved wandering down to the loch to collect shells. April 2012.
  3. Very large and well equipped house in wonderful location close to the shore of the loch. Excellent for large groups. Aug 2011.
  4. A homely welcome was offered in what was a superbly equipped and deceptively spacious property in a wonderfully pretty and private location. For us, as a party of ten who were doing a lot of eating and drinking, the property was more than adequately fitted out with refrigeration, storage, utensils and has a four oven Aga which was a joy to cook on. Every room boasts fantastic views and there are essentially three large public rooms so the house provides an awful lot of space for a "cottage" environment. Highly recommended. April 2011.
  5. The property is remote, quiet and calm, away for every day hustle and bustle. Oct 2010.
  6. Stunning location with excellent scenery and surroundings. Sept 2010.
  7. It was very comfortable, well equipped and with fantastic views. Sept 2010.
  8. Very well equipped with everything we needed (and more!). Lots of entertainment, games room, games, and plenty of space to entertain. Lots of bathrooms with powerful water pressure and lots of hot water. Aug 2010.
  9. Very commodious, with every comfort and detail for a successful family holiday. The games room was much-used, and the space meant that everyone could find a quiet corner when necessary. Aug 2010.
  10. I chose this property because it advertised an accessible roll-in shower and bedroom. The entire house was very well laid-out and accessible for my son-in-law who uses a motorized chair. The rest of us also found the house to be spacious and comfortable. In addition, it is located on a beautiful property with an amazing view. We couldn’t have had a better place to stay. June 2010.
  11. We have stayed at Caddleton now for ten years and we absolutely love it! I is a superbly equipped house in the most beautiful setting imaginable. March 2010.
  12. This property was ideal for our mixed age family holiday - so much space within the house, a games room which provided hours of fun, kitchen space to work in, dining table accommodated the whole family(12), crockery in abundance, lots of toilets, attic bedroom wonderful for the children. Garden and garden furniture -wonderful views and sunsets!!!! Oct 2009.
  13. Well appointed, excellent outlook and facilities. Aug 2009.
  14. The farmhouse was lovely and clean and was very well equipped with all we needed and in a superb location. Sept 2009.
  15. Caddleton Farmhouse is an excellent location for a family holiday - would thoroughly recommend it and look forward to returning! Oct 2008.
  16. The owner was very understanding and the caretaker/ handyman looked after us. It was fantastic. June 2008.
  17. Outstanding location. Spacious and well equipped house. Highly recommended! April 2008.
