Situated on the outskirts of Drymen, in the small hamlet of Milton of Buchanan, this former school house offers superb accommodation for families, and is ideally located for exploring the stunning surroundings of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. A popular destination with walkers – the West Highland Way is a short distance from the property offering a challenge for all abilities, with Conic Hill and Ben Lomond easily accessible by car. The nearby village of Balmaha with its sandy coves and marina is a perfect day out for all the family. Boat hire and fishing are also available, and leisurely trips along the water allow for a relaxing way to take in the scenery. For golfers, the course at Loch Lomond is a must, with the nearby Carrick offering additional spa facilities. Other attractions include Lomond Shores and Aquarium, Balloch Castle Country Park, Drymen village and ferry trips to the island of Inchailloch. The city of Stirling with its majestic castle, Wallace Monument and Mill Trail, and the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are all within easy reach. Shops, pubs and restaurants 1½ miles.

  1. Excellent property for larger families. Very peaceful location but in centre of many activities. Stirling good for shopping and castle and glasgow good for shopping and museums. Lovely walks for all abilities. Good food at oak tree inn and drymen pottery. April 2012.

The location is very good, just be careful of the lamp-post as you drive onto the driveway. if heavy rain the river at the back can be fast flowing so as always supervise the kids when playing in the stream. Eating in Drymen is good, better than Balmaha. Wet day go to Stirling Castle - kept the kids going for 5 hours. March 2012.
  3. Great location and a real home from home, we particularly enjoyed the Oak Tree Inn for meals and hot chocolate after a lovely walk! March 2012.

  6. Buchanan Schoolhouse was absolutely delightful. The accomodation was extremely well appointed and very clean. There is plenty of room if you need a bit of space from the rest of your party as well. All the beds are very comfortable and the WIFI is a great touch. The Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha was a favourite of ours for dining but we did make use of the kitchen facilities like the oven and dishwasher and all worked perfectly (again, very clean). We very much look forward to returning. Excellent all round. Thank you. April 2011.
  7. The natural setting was a definite relaxation plus. Looking onto the river / wooded area gave enormous pleasure. A enormous kitchen, fabulous to cater for a large family party et.. Dec 2010.
  8. We were 3 generations staying at the property and it was excellent for all of us, including the extras we needed for a 12 month old baby. The property was extremely well equipped and very clean. We all particularly enjoyed the living room at the rear of the property which lead to a decking area with outdoor furniture. Lovely. Oct 2010.
