Property Description

100 metres to Brotherswater

This large detached stone family house was originally built in the 18th century and stands in a wonderful position beside Brotherswater which is on the Ullswater to Ambleside road at the start of Kirkstone pass. A superb base for a fell-walking, climbing or mountain biking holiday, the cottage is surrounded by spectacular craggy lakeland scenery. Nestling between the Helvellyn and High Street range of mountains, there are countless footpaths to explore nearby. Totally renovated, this house provides a well equipped central holiday base from which to explore the lakes and fells. Ullswater is just a short drive away where, during the summer months, you can take the Lake Steamer from Glenridding to Howtown and Pooley Bridge. Ambleside is 6 miles away and has a pretty town centre with shops, galleries and tea rooms. Also within easy reach is Lake Windermere 15 miles, Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, the Beatrix Potter exhibition and the Brockhole Visitor Centre. Shop 2 miles, pub with food ½ mile, (4 pubs within 2 miles).

Lower ground floor: Shower room. Separate toilet. Ground floor: Living room. Second living room. Dining room/kitchen. Utility room. First floor: 4 bedrooms: 2 double (one four poster), 2 twin, two with additional single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Open fire in living room included. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. High chair. Video. Rayburn (with oven). Microwave. Washing machine. Coin-operated tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Payphone. Garden and furniture. Ample parking. No smoking.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Great location. Had a lovely weekend. Two sheep wandered into our back garden on a Friday afternoon. Log fire. Cosy cottage for large group. No mobile reception what so ever though. But why do you want to talk over the phone in such beautiful surrounding?! Go with sufficient supply of food, washing liquid etc, nearest shop we found is about half an hour drive around Windermere. Overall great experience. April 2012.
  2. We had a great weekend at this cottage and would recommend it. Perfect for a weekend of walking, with stunning walks from the doorstep. Ideal for a group of friends or families. Feb 2012.
  3. We booked the cottage for the weekend to attend our nieces wedding at the nearby Inn on the lake in Ullswater. It was the cheaper option than staying in the hotel itself. There were four adults and four children, ages ranging from 3years to 14 years. When we arrived the owner had turned on all the lights and it was lovely and warm in the cottage. The cottage was comfortable and everything you needed was there. We would certainly book it again. We even had our own sheep in the garden. Dec 2011.
  4. This is a lovely big property which was great for our holiday. It’s in the countryside with lovely views of Brothers Water. The cottage was so warm which was a lovely surprise for such a large property. If you request the high chair you need to take your own reins as it didn’t have any straps. Overall, an excellent holiday! Oct 2011.
  5. The property exceeded expectations - kitchen is great and the property is deceptively large, including the bedrooms. Clean and cosy throughout. Baths/showers were fine, real foreplace with wood and coal provided. Beautiful location, would certainly recommend this cottage and we hope to stay again in the future. Sept 2011.
  6. We used the house as a meeting point for the family including two small children, the house was perfect, large enough we all had space and warm throughout. The kitchen was well equipt and included a very large table which was perfect. Jan 2011.
  7. This was just perfect for our party, with open fire, & a very hot heating system cosy lounge, perfect aga for cooking on, we had a fantastic time. Dec 2010.
  8. Wonderful welcome in being able to arrive at the property to find it warm, cosy and ready for use. We had a large party arriving from all over UK with children and the furnishing, heating, cooking, kitchen, lounge were all fabulous. Not too grand (so not always worried about the children) but very clean and comfortable. Overall, hugely successful family get-together. Owners made sure sufficient fuel in very difficult icy and snow conditions. Fabulous holiday. Because of bad weather some concern about getting from Devon to Lakes but your company put our minds at rest in case we could not get there re refund etc. Many thanks. Dec 2010.
  9. Lovely big family kitchen and lounge, excellent location. Nov 2010.
  10. Size. May 2010.
  11. The cottage was brill, the pictures do it no justice, was massive. we will defo be visiting again.x
  12. The size of the cottage enabled us to cook and dine with a large group of our friends whilst the children had room to play. April 2010.
  13. The cottage was in a fabulous location on the edge of the village Hartsop in the middle of nowhere, ideal for walkers and anyone wishing to get away from the rat race. We booked the cottage for my 40th birthday celebrations, we had a wonderful time. The cottage is very spacious, clean and has everything that we required. The open fire was a luxury. Jan 2010.
  14. The cottage was full of character, ample space for everyone with the Raeburn cooker the hub of the whole cottage. Aug 2009.
  15. Perfect for hikers! March 2009.
  16. Great place in a good location. April 2008.
  17. The photo’s of the cottage do not do it justice, the cottage itself is very large and well equipped which you do not get the full impression of from the picture. Also the location was excellent which should be advertised more. April 2007.
  18. Beautiful setting and accessible location. April 2006.
  19. It’s such a spacious property We’ve recommended to many people and will definately go back, it was lovely! Jan 2006.
  20. We found the accommodation to be of a very high standard, but the beautiful weather we had was the icing on the cake! Sept 2006.
