The Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam and Swirl How can be walked in a day and offers fantastic views. Surrounded by magnificent scenery, the walking, scrambling and climbing are absolutely superb. The Langdales are a little further away. The property is situated 5 miles from Ambleside, a mile from Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest behind you. The pretty village of Coniston is popular with hikers and rock climbers and is within walking distance. Visit John Ruskin’s former home, Brantwood, explore the Ruskin Museum or take a walk round the village church, his final resting place. Coniston Lake is ideal for kayaking and canoeing, or tour the lake on the steam yacht Gondola in the summer months. Windermere is a short ferry trip across the lake, and all the beautiful lakes can be reached along wonderful scenic drives. Shop and pub serving food 200 yards, restaurant 1½ miles.

  1. We had a great time at Brookfield cottage it is a well equipped comfortable home with plenty of room we would recommend it to anyone, the location is excellent being just outside Conniston so easily accessible to most tourist attractions. Sept 2012.
  2. The accommodation was of an extremely high standard. We went there with 2 other couples and there was plenty of room. It snowed heavily whilst we were there but with picturesque walks on our doorstep and a lovely pub in walking distance a good time was had by all. Can’t remember the name but the pub I recommend was about 500 yards on the opposite side of the road. The staff there were very helpful and served us a late Sunday lunch to fit in with our hiking plans. Feb 2012.
