Property Description

Surrounded by acres of unspoilt woodland and stunning country views - a beautiful base for exploring the Highlands...

Nestling in the stunning scenery of Glen Urquhart within 20 acres of unspoilt woodland, these lovely detached properties (SGGJ - SGGM) enjoy views across open countryside towards the surrounding hills. Individually set in approximately 1 acre of gardens and grounds, each holiday property enjoys a quiet and secluded location in this lovely part of the Highlands. Steeped in history and legend, Glen Urquhart has something to offer in every season of the year. Nearby are the ruins of Urquhart Castle, spectacularly set right on the shores of Loch Ness. Drumnadrochit is only 6 miles and offers a variety of village amenities which include the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Centre where the history of Nessie can be enjoyed. Inverness, the Highland Capital, is only 20 miles.
The area is renowned for the abundance of wildlife with deer, red kites, buzzards and pine martens regularly seen. Glen Affric, a National Nature Reserve, is an ideal place to admire breathtaking scenery, spot rare wildlife and walk through the majestic mountains. It also contains one of Scotland’s largest ancient Caledonian pinewoods. This is a fabulous area for mountain biking on one of the many forest trails, as well as walking with the start of the Great Glen Way just a few miles away. An excellent base for touring the north and west Highlands. Take a trip to the Isle of Skye and on the way there visit the beautiful, romantic Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie, then travel over the stunning mountain road of Mam Ratagan to the scenic village of Glenelg where a short ferry trip can be taken (summer operation) to this unforgettable Isle.
Travel to the Moray Coast where this dramatic coastline boasts unspoilt beaches and possible sightings of the famous bottlenose dolphins frolicking in the waters of the Firth. A visit inland takes in some of the many distilleries of the Whisky Trail where visitors may wish to sample the ‘Water of Life’ or take the Castle Trail to explore and learn of the fascinating history of some of Scotland’s oldest buildings. Further north, the rugged coastline of Sutherland and Caithness is waiting to be explored, or guests can wander over some of the few remaining unspoilt moorlands in the UK. A day trip to the Orkney Islands is highly recommended with a large variety of archeological sites and wonderful local seafood in the restaurants and pubs. In all, Bearnock Country Cottages make a super holiday base for touring this wonderful part of the Highlands. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Everything was excellent. Amenities were very good, cottage was extremely clean. Jan 2011.
  2. A well appointed cottage in a wonderful location, very quiet and peaceful. A word of warning you will need a four by four to get to the cottage in snowy conditions but the owner will take you to the cottage, just remember the walk up and down the hill to get to your car. That said I would recommend this property for a relaxing holiday, even the creaky floors have a certain charm. March 2010.
  3. Lovely. March 2010.
  4. Very warm and cosy, which was just as well, as it was minus 16 outside! Dec 2009.
  5. The cottage was very luxury and it had everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Oct 2009.
  6. Very nice cottage let down by the squeaky floors throughout. As soon as someone moved in the cottage, you knew about it. This meant that if you came to bed late, you woke up whoever went to bed early. Conversely, if you rose early, you woke up whoever wanted a long lie. Oct 2009.
  7. Brocks Cottage was beautifully presented and the owner was very friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed and comfortable during our stay. March 2008.
  8. Cottage stunning and immaculate on entering - we were overwhelmed by it all. We had a marvelous holiday there and may return another year. July 2008.
  9. Lovely cottage, excellently furnished in a quiet and open location, perfect for exploring Glen Affric. Sept 2008.
  10. The photographs on the website do not do justice to the property - it was immaculate throughout. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. Oct 2008.
