Property Description

Victorian house overlooking historic harbour and modern marina

This wonderful detached family house is set in the centre of Whitehaven, within walking distance of the marina, town centre, railway station, and the Beacon Centre. A supermarket and petrol station lie opposite and below the house. The elegant interior retains attractive coving, ceiling rosettes and impressive ornamental fireplace in the main lounge. The lower ground floor has a further sitting room with TV and DVD plus kitchen facilities - an ideal ‘den’ for children and teenagers. Upper floor views towards the marina and sea are spectacular, especially at night when the ‘Candlestick’ on the hill beyond the marina is illuminated and the ‘wave’ illuminations around the harbour stand out in a vivid kaleidoscope of colour. A short walk from the house are north and west piers and main harbour. St Bees with sandy beach is 3 miles; stunning scenery of Ennerdale lake, 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Lower ground floor: Living room/kitchen. Utility room. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet. Ground floor: Second living room. Dining room. Kitchen. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double (5ft), 1 bunk. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Second floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft) with additional single, 1 bunk with en-suite toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. 10 of us had a great week despite the weather. The autumn colours and scenery of the lake district were beautiful. Whitehaven has quite a bit of history. A trip to the Beacon Centre, and the Rum Story were very informative, although I believe the Beacon Centre is to close because of lack of funds! Would be happy to go again. Oct 2012.
  2. Overall good house. Whitehaven more to do than originally thought. The beacon is well worth a visit, kept our kids busy for a couple of hours. Rum story not good value for money. Aug 2012.
  3. Very spacious property, close to the town centre and to Tesco’s for shopping. June 2012.
  4. This was an amazing property perfectly situated for everything that you need with the railway station, supermarket and pub within 5 minutes walk. April 2012.
  5. Really handy for everything, shops, pubs, tesco, excellent bus and train links within a 2 minute walk. If visiting Cockermouth or Maryport I would advise taking the train as the bus takes an hour. Owners friendly. Feb 2012.
  6. A good place for a big family get together. There is plenty of room and the downstairs den is great for the kids. There is a well kitted out kitchen, but with the shops and pubs nearby, there is not always the need to cook. Feb 2012.
  7. A good property, well placed for the lakes and surrounding coastal area. Ideal for a large party with transport. The right property if you intend spending the evenings in, as Whitehaven not particularly tourist orientated. The property would benefit from an additional shower, but otherwise well proportioned and relaxing for a medium sized group. Sept 2011.
  8. My party of 12 found the accommodation and locale exactly what we wanted. Loads of pubs, eating places and golf courses. Will return next year same time. May 2011.
  9. The house was a really good size for our party, could have done with a bathroom on the top floor. Nov 2010.
  10. Fabulous property with great space for 3 families and we loved the den for the teenagers so everyone had space. Especially loved the Welcome Gift on arrival - really nice touch. July 2010.
  11. Large property with helpful owners and good attention to ensuring that it worked as a familly home. July 2010.
  12. Great for a large family with children as they had their own space too which they loved as they felt very grown up!! April 2010.
  13. Bransty House is a splendid house with lovely views of the harbour and close to all amenities of Whitehaven and the surrounding area. We all enjoyed our stay immensely. Another bathroom would be a great asset with a large party such as ours but it did not detract from the holiday in any way. Oct 2009.
  14. Two lounges and kitchens. Sept 2009.
  15. It is well maintained - good solid house - plenty of space as there was a large group of us, brilliant downstairs accommodation, washing facilities. Thought having a petrol station and supermarket close would have been odd - in fact it was a blessing. Aug 2009.
  16. We couldn’t have chose a better property, everything was first class, thank you. The house was everything we had hoped for, plenty of room for our family gathering. Aug 2009.
  17. The location of the property is excellent - very close to the town centre, promenade and local amenities. June 2009.
  18. Great for a large family gathering. April 2009.
  19. We simply loved the house and its location! Jan 2008.
  20. We had a lovely weekend and would return. Sept 2008.
