Property Description

Nestling into a hillside in the beautiful Duddon Valley these delightful holiday cottages have been converted from a stone and slate built Bobbin Mill, constructed during the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century. Brackens (LJ5) is a detached cottage on one level looking out onto the pretty grounds and brook, with spacious living/dining room. Coopers (LJ6) is on the upper level of the original mill with level access from the rear, with wonderful views along the Duddon Valley from its living room. Original beams, traditional furniture and lovely views characterise each cottage, whilst the peaceful lawned grounds with picnic bench overlooking the babbling brook (Hole House Gill) and 7 acres of natural woodland stretching up the hill, are there for guests’ enjoyment. Each cottage has its own sitting-out area with garden furniture. The whole area is a walker’s paradise, close to Eskdale and the Langdale Fells which are accessed via the stunning Hard Knott Pass, as well as Wasdale with amazing views of Wast Water. History is an important part of this beautiful western Lake District area and Muncaster Castle is a short drive away, a superb day out for all the family. The steam train can be boarded at Ravenglass and a trip along Eskdale is not to be missed. A scenic drive to Duddon Bridge leads to the pretty small market town of Broughton-in-Furness which has very good pubs and eating places, as well as shops. Just a few miles further is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton, whilst three miles of clean award-winning sandy beaches stretch from Haverigg northwards along the coastline. Shop 1 mile, pub 3 miles.

The cottage was set in a quite location with a stream running at the side which was nice to listen and relax too, the area was very beautiful with a lot of wildlife, just in the garden we saw woodpeckers, woodhatch, tits and finches as well as squirrells.   20. Beautiful cottage in a wonderful spot,very well equipped and very comfortable. Gorgeous garden that we could view from cottage which we greatly enjoyed whilst sitting at the table. Enjoyed welcome visits from birds especially the woodpecker and nuthatch and watching the bats flying at night. Plenty of great walks and most places of interest were easy to reach.Overall a wonderful relaxing holiday that we would thoroughly recommend. July 2008.
