Property Description

Steeped in history, Ben Venue is an imposing listed Victorian house built in 1890, once owned by the brother of A.R Johnson wax polish empire of America. Ben Venue (HKKB) is attached to Lemon Tree Cottage (HMMS) and the owner’s apartment. In Ben Venue (HKKB), many original features are still evident, with a very grand staircase, and large chandeliers throughout as well as high ceilings which add to the charm and character of this most beautiful property. It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, from the piano in the entrance to the four-poster beds, the large bathroom and en-suite shower rooms. There have been many famous celebrities who have visited the property over the years and enjoyed many a game of snooker on the full size snooker table - see all the photos adorning the walls including Ray Reardon, Max Bygraves and Bobby Davro to name but a few. All of the rooms have elegance about them; there are huge picture windows, and sea views from the ground and first floors. Lemon Tree Cottage has its own entrance and is also decorated to a high standard from Italian marble floors to beautiful furnishings. Torquay has so much to offer and these are the perfect properties for family get-togethers, friends reunited and celebrations. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks, with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing, angling and to study the natural wildlife at leisure. Stunning views are to be seen just about everywhere across the bay, out over the English Channel, along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill or inland towards the tors of Dartmoor. Torquay is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. It is a place to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a holiday in a classic English seaside resort. Torquay town centre and Living Coasts are about 5 minutes away. Shops and pub ¼ mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Outstanding property. One little item - could not find a hairdryer which I would have expected given the overall standard of the property. Jan 2012.
  2. Lovely elegant property, but with a tricky steep walk in and out of central Torquay. Oct 2011.
  3. It is a lovely place to stay, a fair walk from the town but very nice surroundings. Oct 2011.
  4. Property is situated in a quiet area of Torquay. It is reasonably comfortable and decorated in an elegant but unpractical style (white capets and furnishings throughout). There were no curtains in any of the rooms, so it didn’t feel cosy at night. TV was a bit too high on the wall. I would not recommend it for families with small children. Sept 2011.
  5. Very well-fitted out cottage with all mod cons. Pink bedroom is very warm at all times. A good 10 minutes walk to shops and pub, but in one of the best parts of Torbay. Would definitely go back if going to Torbay. Aug 2011.
  6. Peaceful location from which to explore Devons many places of interest. For the steam train/river enthusiast its worth looking at www.dartmouthrailriver.co.uk. You can purchase a Round Robin Gold that starts and ends in Torquay. Public transport in this area is very reliable. Owner very helpful. June 2011.
  7. Lemon Tree Cottage was a delight. It is a beautifully appointed and very well maintained property. It is a great place for a restful holiday although the location provides a good opportunity to get fit if you do not have a car. May 2011.
  8. Very nice accommodation. Quite a climb up from the coast and town centre. April 2011.
  9. The cottage is lovely, very quiet, modern, clean and very spacious, great location although walking into town you need to be fit and able to tackle very big hills! will be returning again next year. April 2011.
  10. The pictures on the internet do not do this cottage justice as you will see when you stop there. March 2011.
  11. Everything was fine but I will be more happy with WI-FI. Feb 2011.
  12. The accommodation was first class throughout, highly recommendable. Sept 2010.
