Property Description

Occupying a romantic setting on the estate of Chatsworth House, these two barn conversions date back to around 1668. Commanding beautiful views across Monash, Ashford-in-the-Water and Bakewell countryside, they adjoin each other in a quiet position on the owners’ non-working farm. Each has been lovingly furnished throughout, and both properties’ bedrooms boast en-suite facilities – with under-floor heating. The individual sitting-out areas for each property and the shared picnic benches in the wild meadow are the perfect place to relax amidst charming country surroundings – and there some superb walks throughout the Chatsworth Estate. An excellent base for touring the Peak District, they stand just a mile away from Bakewell (where visitors can make use of the sporting facilities – fly fishing, tennis and swimming). Within the surrounding area are many places of historical interest – the Arbor Low Stone Circle, Hob Hurst’s House and the Nine Ladies all stand as monument to prehistoric times, whilst Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall illustrate the splendour and opulence of times gone by. Shop, pubs and restaurants 1 mile.
Excellent base for touring Peak District. Welcome pack of local Chatsworth produce.

Living/dining room with rugs on slate floor and modern fitted kitchen area. First floor: Beamed double bedroom with canopied bed and additional TV and en-suite shower room with toilet and underfloor heating.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A lovely cottage in an ideal location. Unfortunately it snowed while we were there but we still managed to make the best of our break. We would certainly stay here again. It would be helpful to have directions form other places than the M1 as we arrived a different way and had trouble finding the turning. April 2012.
  2. Excellent location, convenient for Bakewell & Chatsworth Farm Shop where the food is excellent, quiet, cosy and superb views.Would definitely return. Could have done with a few more litchen utensils. Dec 2011.
  3. A very pleasant location with distant views, at the head of a quiet lane. Excellent farm shop, selling a huge range of local produce, beers and wines, about one mile away. The cottage itself is spacious for two people, very clean and well maintained. A peaceful and relaxing place to chill out. Loads of parking. Oct 2011.
  4. The property was more remote than we expected and you did have to drive out to restaurants in the evening. If you enjoy walking we did find that walking a mile downhill of the property would take you onto the Monsal Trail. Sept 2011.
  5. Fantastic property in a fantastic location. We walked out of our front door for beautiful walks around the Chatsworth Estate for each of the three days we stayed. Plus there is the incredible bonus of being a 5-minute drive from the Chatsworth Farm shop - so that we could cook ourselves mouthwatering dinner every night. June 2011.
  6. This was not a holiday. I just wanted somewhere quiet to do a lot of PC work requiring concentration and have access to Hucknall clients. I also got in two days of walking without the need to travel anywhere. Fitted the bill perfectly as the accommodation was so quiet. Feb 2011.
  7. We were actually moved into Rowsley Cottage which was beautiful and very suitable for us with a baby as it was on one level with a bath and was spacious. Very peaceful, comfortable, private and clean. When we arrived there was bread, milk, tea, coffee and cake which was a lovely touch. A travel cot was provided and the owner came to see us to offer a highchair which was provided promptly. Feb 2011.
  8. Cosy. Nov 2010.
  9. Homely and nicely decorated. Oct 2010.
  10. Beautiful views of the Derbyshire countryside. The property was lovely and clean when we arrived. Aug 2010.
  11. The cottage was clean, tidy and very well presented. We also liked the welcome pack of Chatsworth Farm Shop produce. Lovely views from the cottage. July 2010.
  12. Well set up and well located. May 2010.
  13. It was clean, quiet, comfortable and in a lovely part of the country. March 2010.
  14. Well equipped. Clean. Warm. March 2010.
  15. Well appointed. Dec 2009.
  16. It was warm & cosy & attractive. Nov 2009.
  17. Although the cottage was small it was extremely well design to make the most of the space whilst retaining the character. Especially loved the bedroom which with the ensuite was the first floor. The setting and views were incredible. Oct 2009.
  18. Well situated and very private. Well decorated and clean. Oct 2009.
  19. Very well presented, neat and tidy. An easy property to live in. Sept 2009.
  20. The setting for this property is truely fantastic, but with the added bonus of having the Chatsworth farm shop at the end of the lane which sells the most wonderful produce. The pretty town of Bakewell is a very short drive away with plenty of places to eat making it very convenient to visit for a meal on an evening without having to venture too far after dark. Sept 2009.
