Property Description

"A peaceful riverside setting, surrounded by lush fields and meadows - the perfect antidote to everyday living"

Manor Mill nestles amongst the soft green hills of Somerset and occupies the south side of an enchanting wooded valley, beside the River Tone. This converted water mill and its neighbouring barns, which date back to the 17th century, have been sympathetically converted to provide charming, comfortable and well-appointed self-catering country cottages with picturesque views of the river. The extensive 3½-acre grounds surrounding the mill are a haven of fields, water meadows and delightfully cultivated gardens, with many beautiful and rare shrubs, and is a haven for wildlife of all kinds.
Each of the six charming holiday cottages is well equipped including all linen and towels. Manor Mill has a secluded heated indoor swimming pool with an outside sun terrace, and a stone barbecue which offers the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon or evening - eating or drinking to the accompaniment of the rippling sound of the River Tone. The children’s play area is a haven for fun, complete with swings, slides and a miniature fortress. A selection of video, board games, books and magazines are also available to borrow. The extensive grounds and idyllic surroundings offer a wonderfully relaxing location and a delightful rural retreat.
Manor Mill, located on the Devon border, provides an excellent base for touring the West Country, with easy access to the Quantock Hills, the coast of south Devon and north Somerset and on the edge of the glorious wilderness of Exmoor. It offers a delightful and rural location and a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere - the perfect antidote to everyday living.
A private dining lodge, located in a secluded part of the grounds, is also available for hire. From private celebrations, to weddings and children’s parties, the lodge can accommodate up to 20 guests. The resident owners can adapt food, drink and room dressing requirements as requested.
Personally attended by the owners who live within the grounds, all six cottages at Manor Mill are furnished and decorated to retain the original character of the mill. Shop 3 miles, pub 500 yards.

A spacious, characterful first floor property of the mill building with elevated views of the River Tone and cultivated garden. With its own entrance and outside seating area, it is approached by a short flight of stairs from the river, providing plenty of morning and midday sunshine indoors and out. Beech Tree’s original beams and exposed stonework complete the picture of a perfect country cottage. Living room with kitchen/dining area. Characterful double bedroom. Twin bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We had a marvellous weekend. The cottage was cosy, the views and grounds stunning (even in the rain) and whilst my sons enjoyed the indoor pool and trampoline they especially enjoyed paddling in the stream, which runs through the grounds. With a fantastic pub a short walk from the property with delicious food, there’s something for the adults too! I’ll definitely return. June 2012.
  2. Helpful owners. Lovely location. Could here the river as we slept at night, which we found relaxing. Children enjoyed feeding the poultry and swimming in the pool. Would highly recommend visiting The Rock Inn for a meal (it’s at the bottom of the road). Oct 2011.
  3. A lovely little cottage, with a very nice pool. The pool was quite small but you book in when you want to go, so you always have the pool to yourself, which was nice. Our daughter loved to feed the chickens every morning, my husband fished the river every day, nothing big in there but some really petty little ones! The owners where very friendly, we also received a welcome pack of milk, butter, bread, cider and fresh eggs, was was a lovely touch. Lovely pub at the bottom of the road, bit pricey but worth it as food is fantastic! Ate there a couple of times. Another great pub in Wiveliscombe called The Near, good food, great value for money and a nice childs play area in the garden. We would stay here again. Aug 2011.
  4. Enjoyed the cottage very much, especially the view from the dining table out of the window, made meal times very enjoyable. Didn’t care much for all the bits of pottery, trinkets, wall plates and general fussiness around the cottage, had to move them out of the way on arrival. Would stay here again. June 2011.
  5. We booked the cottage for our honeymoon, it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. The hamper on arrival was a very appreciated touch. We would definitely book the cottage again, Thank you. May 2011.
  6. Quiet, peaceful location. Well appointed accommodation. Accepted dogs (important for us). Beautiful location. Aug 2010.
