Property Description

Tucked away in their own picturesque valley, this imposing stone farmhouse (Baysdale Abbey Ref 27943) and three Grade II listed properties (Kildale Barn Ref 27945, Ingleby Barn Ref 27946 and Westerdale Barn Ref 27944) lie on the site of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey in an idyllic setting, where endless footpaths radiate from the door. Accessed by a 2-mile drive, they are set on a working farm where sheep and cattle graze (farm machinery – children must be supervised) within the glorious North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Baysdale Abbey (Ref 27943) has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard. All rooms are spacious, light and airy with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Original wooden floors on the ground level blend with shuttered windows, cornices add decorative touches and open fires in the reception rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere. A large natural garden surrounds the house and is edged by a fenced beck, providing a good habitat for an array of wildlife. Dating back to the 1800s, the other three holiday properties (Kildale Barn Ref 27945, Ingleby Barn Ref 27946 and Westerdale Barn Ref 27944) offer character accommodation in a tranquil and idyllic location. Vaulted beamed ceilings and wood-burning stoves add to the charm and character providing a welcoming atmosphere. Offering 3 miles of sandy beaches is the historic port of Whitby with its picturesque harbour and cobbled streets. Here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train (Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films) and take a memorable journey through the stunning Esk Valley. Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Duncombe Park and Rievaulx Abbey are just a few of the treasures awaiting discovery. The coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend all lie within 23 miles. This is an ideal holiday location at any time of the year. Shop 3 miles, pub 6 miles.

Ground floor: Living room with wooden floor. Dining room. Kitchen with breakfast area. Separate toilet. First floor: 8 bedrooms: 3 double (one 6ft, two 5ft), 3 twin, 1 bunk, 1 single (4ft). 1. An absolutely fantastic location if you like walking and biking straight from the front door. Beautiful countryside. Great house for big groups - bags of space and lots of facilities. Dec 2011.
  2. We booked Baysdale Abbey, as well as all the cottages, for our wedding reception. Being staff of Hoseasons/English Country Cottages, most of us had stayed at plenty of these types of accommodation, before. I can safely say that Baysdale Abbey (and cottages) is easily THE most beautiful, friendly and breath-taking place we have ever resided at. Caretaker Nola and her family live on site, but keep themselves to themselves. We had a lot of interaction with them on the run up to our wedding day, and they are the most accommodating and nicest family you could wish to meet. I highly recommend Baysdale and will make sure that we stay on a regular basis. If you love breath-taking scenery, "real" walking territory, and a property steeped in history yet not too "posh" to be uncomfortable, this is definitely the place for you. The only thing I would have like to see was maybe some information about the history of the abbey available to guests, but I’m sure Nola would only be too pleased to tell you all about it. Thank you, we had an amazing time! Oct 2011.
  3. This is a fantastic place for a large family gathering! We ranged in age from 2 to 7, (15 in total) and everyone enjoyed it. Perfect place to get away from it all, peace and quiet, beautiful area, Baysdale Abbey had everything we needed, the children had hours of fun playing hide and seek in the house! Lots to do near by but we just enjoyed all being together in one place! Sat 21 down for Sunday lunch and plenty room. A perfect get away!!! Hope we will be back again for another family occasion! Sept 2011.
  4. The best thing about Baysdale Abbey was the setting. The children had hours of fun playing in the stream. We alo had family rounders and football games in the acres of land that surrounded the property. For any keen runners there werre miles of great up and down routes. May 2011.
Excellent accommodation - perfect for our group. Rooms were well furnished and the decor was elegant without being fussy. Indeed, its plainness made it all the more attractive. The facilities were all fit for purpose and the log fire gave the living room warmth in more senses than one. The housekeeper and family were very welcoming and could not have been more helpful; they made us feel part of the place - we even helped feed the lambs! April 2011.
  5. This was our fourth stay at Baysdale and we hope to go back again - it is a perfect combination of family friendly accommodation, beautiful location and a little bit more which makes it very special. Feb 2011.
Great space, peaceful surroundings. Oct 2010.
  6. The house was beautiful and perfect for a large family or group of friends. Oct 2010.
  7. We booked Baysdale Abbey for my husband’s 50th birthday. We could not have wished for better accommodation. The abbey had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, fantastic for a large group of people, well equipped with a ’lived in’ look and feel which added to the place rather than detracted. The location was out of this world. We have a wonderful time with all our friends who felt the same. We will definitely be going back. Sept 2010.
  8. An idyllic setting in a safe environment for young children. June 2010.
  9. Gardens and outdoor space was excellent. Rooms inside are of good size. June 2010.
  10. Wonderful location. We had fog on the way in and snow on the way out. Ideal for a large party. Feb 2010.
  11. Baysdale is a wonderful location and house perfect for a large group of friends or family and particularly good for children - no tv required!! Jan 2010.
  12. We particularly liked the size of the rooms and the lovely views from the windows. The isolation of the property was the main draw for all of us. The fact that the interior of the house was homely, not too smart (and this is definitely not a complaint), was good as we felt that we did not need to be too worried about damaging anything. It was very comfortable. Nov 2009.
  13. Very spacious and great for children. Nicely done but not feeling too precious. Nov 2009.
  14. The neatness, cleanliness, open spaces. Sept 2009.
  15. Baysdale was perfect for our large family reunion. We appreciated the double cookers/double dishwashers/extra beer fridge in the sitting room and we loved all the space. Grown-ups highlight: views and sunrises. Children’s highlight: bottle feeding lambs and the little bridge. March 2009.
  16. A very special and unique place which made for an amazing and tranquil weekend. The best holiday cottage i have ever been in and i have been in few. Sept 2008.
  17. The property location was unbelievable, all that countryside and the peace and quiet was wonderful. Really great for the children to play outside and we just had a fantastic time. Feb 2008.
  18. The setting and the property itself far exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful holiday and hope to return again soon. April 2008.
