From the doorstep, there are excellent walks to the high fells and a ten minute walk to the lakeside. The dramatic Lakeland scenery can be enjoyed by steam boat from Pooley Bridge. Climbing, sailing, canoeing, hang-gliding and pony trekking are available locally. Keswick 12 miles. Penrith
5 miles. Excellent restaurant 2 miles. Pub and shop ½ mile.

  6. Excellent position - lounge overlooked a field full of baby lambs which the grand kids adored. Nearly missed the turning to the cottage though on arrival as it looks just like someone’s drive, not a lane. The place was so full of light and wonderfully clean. We were lucky with the weather too. The boys went horse riding nearby and also fly fishing lessons, so kept them busy. Will definitely return again. April 2011.

  13. A stunning cottage. Even better than the pictures. Cottage is nicely decorated and spacious inside and outside (particularly as we were a group of 6 adults). Had everything we needed. A short walk into Pooley Bridge village. Highly Recommend! March 2010.

  17. Barton House was absolutely lovely. All crockery, cooking equipment etc.was of high quality and plentiful. The furnishing were comfortable and the whole house delightful. A lot of care had been taken to ensure that guests enjoyed their holiday. This was not just a holiday let, it was a welcoming home ensuring a lovely stay. We were quite sad to leave! May 2008.
  18. We were blown away when we arrived at Barton School House. It looked great on the web site but photographs can not do this lovely cottage justice. This is not just a holiday home, it is fit to live in and feels homely. It is fitted out with everything you would need in a home, let a lone a holiday home. The surrounding garden is very well kept and spacious. The location could not be more perfect, 5 minutes walk from the gorgeous village Pooley Bridge, 10 minutes drive to Penrith for all your shopping needs and many lovely walks for all types of walkers on your door step or around 10 to 20 minutes drive away. We will definitely return to this property again and have already recommended it to many friends and clients of ours. Oct 2008.
