Property Description

Minutes from Lake Ullswater

Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water-sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

Ground floor: Living room with beams and wooden floor. Dining room/kitchen with beams. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Parking.

All properties: Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Wood-fired renewable energy central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Cot. High chair. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Shared utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. Shared garden area and furniture. Barbecue.

  1. The holiday cottage we stayed at was absolutely perfect! It was a very warm welcome from the host, the personal extra touches which we found on arrival were lovely (flowers, tea/coffee and scones & jam! There were tones of helpful leaflets on the area, walks, places to eat etc etc. They also made having 2 dogs with us very easy. They are clearly experienced at what they do and very good at it. We would definitely stay there again - especially if they can arrange the same weather!! Oct 2012.
  2. Warm welcome from property owner, not obtrusive. Stable Cottage well equipped and had everything needed for self-catering. Great location for walking in and around Ullswater area.Waterproofs essential! Aug 2011.
  3. A quiet location which was just what we wanted. Aug 2010.
  4. Well equipped and warm with plenty of hot water. Well situated for exploring northern lake district. May 2010.
  5. On arrival the property was immaculately clean and welcoming with lovely cake and tea waiting. The owners were friendly, on hand and happy to talk and help but not intrusive. April 2010.

  7. Quiet location, near to amenities & village. Oct 2009.
  8. Was a lovely cosy cottage to come back to after hiking - Ideal set up for drying coats and boots within cottage and great log burner in living area. Would benefit from a stand alone shower, freezer compartment within fridge and a king size bed would be a real winner...Great location for all North Lakes has to offer - great walks from the door. Sept 2009.
  9. Excellent base for exploring one of the nicest parts of Cumbria. Lovely scenic walks from the door. Accommodation very dog friendly. Sept 2008.
  10. The cottage was very cosy and homely and very well equipped, the owner had left us a welcome tray on arrival which was very nice and welcoming. There were also fresh flowers in the cottage as well as plants. The owners were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all had a great relaxing time, and would definiately return. Sept 2007.
  11. Stable Cottage was an excellent property for a Christmas Break. The cottage was beautifully and tastefully dressed for Christmas, and we were welcomed with home baked mince pies. The kitchen was well equipped, and the close proximity to Stainton farm shop and the Rheged Centre Farmers Market meant that we could source all of our Christmas Dinner locally. The cottage is really warm, with plenty of hot water and immaculately clean. Our host was fantastic, and was always on hand if we had any queries. Ullswater, as ever was beautiful and we hope to book this cottage again. My only quibble was that it rained a lot and didn’t snow, but I can’t have everything!! Dec 2007.
