Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water-sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

  1. The cottage was wonderful, more than we expected. It was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The walk in shower in the downstairs bathroom was a bonus. Seven of us stayed there and none of us could find any fault with it, we would definitely stay there again. June 2012.
  2. The cottage was perfect, a home from home, comfortable, warm and cosy with a real fire. The additional touches on arrival (fresh flowers and homemade cake) were really appreciated. Well stocked with cutlery, glasses, pans, utensils etc. Had everything you could think of. Was based on a working farm, which we were welcomed to explore, our 2 year old loved being this close to the animals! Will definitely be staying again. April 2012.

The weather wasn’t a problem, we know the lakes well enough! Pooley Bridge close by too, and easily accessible walks and great views all around.   8. Lovely cottage, plenty of space, situated in working farm surrounded by beautiful countryside. Walking distance (0.25 miles) over fields to Pooley Bridge village. July 2011.
  9. You can walk to Pooley Bridge if you know the way. Very well equipped, very comfortable - would definitely recommend it for families. The shower was excellent but with the maximum number staying another one upstairs would have been very useful. July 2011.
  10. We brought with us 3 looked after children aged 16, 12 and 11. They had never walked before and were so pleased with the cottage and the walking that they all want to go again. The accomodation is fabulous and the property owners very welcoming. We will be going again - probably several times. July 2011.
  11. The accommodation was very nice and I would recommend them. The cottage was disable friendly. With a large twin room downstairs, walk in wet room and a ramp into the cottage. This made it easy access into the cottage for a wheelchair. All rooms were a lovely size and nicely decorated. The cottage was situated on a working farm, which was lovely to view the cows in the fields outside. over all it was excellent and I would go again. June 2011.

  16. Beautiful location, quiet and situated within walking distance of Pooley Bridge/Ullswater. Ideal access to an abundance of public footpaths/walks. The owners were so friendly and helpful in every way, advising us on good routes to take for walks/runs and even leaving a welcome gift of cakes for us on arrival!
