Chestnut Farm, a 17th century Derbyshire farm, longbarn and dairy have been sympathetically converted into five individual properties that combine modern comfort with the distinctive construction methods of the era. Set within 1¼ acres of courtyard and grounds, the farm looks out over the undisputed beauty of the Peak District National Park, and yet is less than 15 minutes to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Retaining many original features including beams and exposed stone walls, each cottage offers individual holiday accommodation, welcoming couples or large family parties who may wish to book several cottages together. Situated in Uppertown, just above the village of Bonsall, high above the wooded ’Via Gellia’ gorge, it is ideal for walkers with the Limestone Way passing immediately alongside the farm. Matlock is 10 minutes away with supermarket, bus and rail, and a steam train up the Derwent Valley. The lively town of Matlock Bath, approximately 2½ miles by car or walk through woodland, has a mining museum, Abraham Cable Cars and Gullivers Kingdom. All the scenic delights of the Peak District are a short drive including Carsington Water, High Peak Trail, Dovedale and the Manifold Valley. The market towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne are all within a half hour drive along with Chatsworth House, Haddon Halla and the Crich Tramway Village all a similar drive. Alton Towers and the Potteries are well worth the drive. Shop 100 yards, pub ½ mile.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen with beams and tiled floor. Spiral stairs to first floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 bunk. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Separate spiral stairs to first floor: 1 twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Electric woodburner in living room included. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Limestone sitting-out area. Parking (2 cars). One pet welcome (to be kept on a lead at all times).

All properties: Gas central heating, underfloor heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Gas cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Shared playing field. No smoking.

  7. The cottage was excellent and exceeded our expectations by some distance as it was so reasonably priced. It was warm, cosy and well-equipped, perfect for our requirements. We found a good Indian restaurant too in Matlock - called Maazi - along with a delightful cafe in the park in Matlock. March 2011.

  14. The location for getting to all the attractions in the area is excellent. The property is spacious a nd very comfortable. Having the two spiral staircases makes it very separate ideal for your own privacy, but great for sharing with each side having its own bathroom you can be completely self contained when you want to be. It is very quiet and private and yet near to everything.It has a lovely feel to it so you feel at home from the start. Great outside area for sitting out. Ideal for all weathers and times of the year. June 2010.

  17. The property is well equipped, roomy, warm and comfortable. It has plenty of equipment, has been thoughfully converted and has been furnished to a high standard. The second bathroom is a real boon to the larger family. Mar 2010.
  18. Would have liked to rate it as excellent except neither the dishwasher nor the washing machine worked. The owner had stated the dishwasher had a problem stopping. The appliances were not suitable for the property ie dishwasher & washing m/c too low a quality, microwave too complicated and a toaster so small that a standard slice of bread would not fit in it.
