Property Description

This pretty, detached holiday cottage stands in the oldest part of Hathersage, as described by Charlotte Brontë in the novel ‘Jane Eyre’. With lovely views over gently undulating hills and fields. Brass rubbings of the replica ‘Eyre’ brasses are permitted at the nearby church, and with Little John’s grave and countless other Robin Hood sites in the area, there is lots to see and do. Locally, activities and attractions abound, including many superb walks from the doorstep, and facilities for golf, horse riding and fishing. A little further afield are Castleton Blue John Caverns, Peveril Castle, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall and Matlock Bath. With water sports at Carsington Water, there will never be a dull moment. Shops 500 yards, pub 100 yards.

This property is close to the 2014 Tour de France route, come and experience the spectacular scenery for yourself and follow in the trail of some true cycling legends.

  1. Perfect cottage in a super place. Excellent property and facilities in an excellent location. Weather was perfect for this time of the year. Elderly father (88) with me but managed to complete some local walks. Would like to return in the future. March 2012.
  2. Comfortable - and it could not have been cleaner. An excellent supply of tea-towels etc. Really good pans, everything in the kitchen worked well - and when the lighting fitment failed on Christmas Eve, the owner sorted it out for us. A coat rack in the staircase lobby would be a great improvement. Dec 2011.
  3. A short but steepish walk back from the village, but there’s a v good pub/restaurant just at the bottom of the hill. Ideal start point for walks. June 2011.
  4. Ideal family accommodation, offers all facilities required. Lovely area for walking and resting after a busy day. On a very steep hill, looking out over Hathersage, looks lovely in the snow. Feb 2011.
  5. Warm and spacious in a brilliant location. There is a an old-fashioned feel to the furnishings and decor that is endearing. Excellent walks straight from the door but with shops and pubs in the village on your doorstep too. Feb 2011.

  14. The photos can be very deceptive, but we were surprised at how dramatically beautiful the setting was. We liked the fact that the cottage wasn’t overlooked, although not completely isolated - and a great pub 100 yards away, with excellent food! You could come here by train quite easily and never need a car - it’s a perfect centre for walking and exploring. We intend to book this cottage again one day. Oct 2006.
