Property Description

Magnificent setting in mature woodland by Loch Awe
Ideal area for fishing, walking and cycling
Children’s play area, pool table and darts
Traditional bar - ideal for family functions
Motor boats, rowing boats and canoes for hire, 300 yards, launch facility

Late 16th century Ardbrecknish House is in a magnificent Highland setting with wonderful views of mountains and glens. These attractive holiday properties are set amid 20 acres of mature woodland close to beautiful Loch Awe - 26 miles long and Britain’s longest freshwater loch. A whole host of indoor and outdoor amenities are available on site, and although the setting is quiet and peaceful, it is within easy reach of restaurants, shops, golf courses, and the small village of Kilmartin Glen and museum, the richest area in Europe for prehistoric remains, making these properties an ideal holiday location and a perfect touring base. A visitors’ reception/library area provides a wealth of information on the local history, archaeology, wildlife, gardens, forest and hillside walks, as well as the year-round activities available around Argyll and the West Highlands.
The Ardbrecknish Room has a welcoming open fire, small dance floor, pool table, darts and Scottish Carpet Bowls. The adjoining cosy traditional bar with its woodburner provides a perfect way to end the day; perhaps sampling one or two of the many malt whiskies.
At the shore, just 10 minutes’ walk, motor boats, rowing boats and canoes can be hired to explore the enchanting islands and ruined castles of the loch, or maybe fishing the loch for salmon, char, monster pike and brown trout. A British record brown trout of 31lbs 10oz was caught in March 2002. Tuition and/or a fishing guide is available by arrangement.
The surrounding area offers a wealth of interest and fantastic scenery. Opposite Ardbrecknish is majestic Ben Cruachan, and further north are the impressive Glen Coe and Ben Nevis ranges, a mecca for hill walkers all year round. Both regions have ski centres and within an hour’s drive is the busy town of Oban, ‘Gateway to the Isles’, from where modern ferries take you to Mull and Iona, the cradle of Christianity, Staffa, the inspiration for Mendelssohn’s Fingal’s Cave Overture, and to other Hebridean gems. Oban has a sea life centre and an excellent golf course. The elegant town of Inveraray on Loch Fyne only 12 miles away, to the south is the Crinan Canal with its stepped locks, you can walk or drive a delightful route along its 9-mile length. Family-friendly bar and restaurant on site.

All on first floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 3 bedrooms: 2 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We enjoyed staying in this gallery apartment that formed part of the 16th century house. The owners were welcoming and helpful. The rooms had high ceilings and was nicely furnished. Great view of the Munroes and lovely view of the front garden, we enjoyed watching a variety of birds eating at the feeding tray and apparently there were red squirrels although we didn’t see them. We ate in the bar twice and had a pretty good meal. Great haggis starter and on the second day fresh trout which was pretty good. May 2012.
  2. Spacious. Aug 2010.
  3. It is a beautiful location and great place to feel away from it all! It was clean and spacious rooms. There was necessary equipment. Aug 2009.
  4. Friendly and helpful owners. July 2009.
  5. We liked the spaciousness of the apartment. June 2009.
  6. We very much appreciated the bar and the fact that meals were available at the site without going out in the evening - it made a lot of difference to our stay. We liked the fact that our dog was made welcome and we could walk him without any fear of ’losing’ him. The loch was very close which was also a bonus. June 2009.
  7. The owners were very welcoming, the pub on site was very friendly and the food excellent, the views were breath taking, a place to relax and go back to again. May 2009.
  8. We really enjoyed our stay at Ardbrecknish. The owners were lovely, and they were genuinely welcoming about the dog as well. Having the restaurant and bar was a big bonus. I’ve already recommended it to a friend. Aug 2008.
