Property Description

Former cider making farmhouse

Situated in the centre of the small historic market town of Presteigne, this holiday cottage was originally a cider working farmhouse. The cottage has a wealth of character with wooden floors, beams and exposed stone, and idyllic gardens, with patio, lawn and the remains of the cider orchards. The whole cottage is totally enchanting and relaxing, you would not know you were in the town. Presteigne is a pretty border town formerly of Radnor county, and its central location is ideal for exploring the Welsh Marches and visiting historic sites and gardens. These include the award winning Judges Lodgings Museum. Being an ancient border town it has ten walks radiating from it. Offa’s Dyke is close by and the Heart of Wales Railway is a must as it meanders from Swansea in the south and Shrewsbury in the north, taking in 120 miles of glorious and varying countryside. There is fishing on the River Lugg and many trails to explore in Radnor Forest. Ludlow has some remarkable eating places or visit Hereford or Hay-on-Wye. Visit Hergest Croft Gardens, Berrington Hall, Ludlow Castle or Dunkerton’s Cider Musuem, or follow the cycle trails through the renowned black and white villages. You could even enjoy a special treat at a Michelin Star restaurant within 3 miles. Properties W40409, W40410, W41354, W41712 and W42756 can be booked together and are ideal for larger groups. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The cottage was lovely and very comfortable, there was 6 of us, myself, my husband and 4 grown up children and 2 dogs and there was loads of room for us all. The garden was great for the dogs, very very large and all enclosed, it was like having a secret garden that went on forever. The people in Prestigne were very friendly, nice welcoming pubs, great for a base, with some lovely local walks. We all found lots to do and had a great time. Aug 2012.
  2. The family met to celebrate my 80th bithday, they could not have chosen a better place... all ages from 11 to my own throughly enjoyed both the house and the area, and specially the people we met. Oct 2011.
  3. Plenty of bedroom options, surprisingly long & secluded garden, great location in middle of town, not too far from Hay Festival, and much better value than any similar size accomm in this area. Fairly quiet, despite road outside front door; Presteigne makes an excellent base for shopping and walking/driving/cycling tours, inc Offa’s Dyke. May 2011.
  4. I think that this house exceeded expectations and the website could have showed more of the grounds of the house and inside of the house to promote itself. Excellent value for money, a nice girlie weekend away. We went to the nearby park and had a game of rounders. All the people in the village seemed friendly. May 2011.
  5. Flawless for a cottage that was built in 1600. A comfortable living room, well-equipped kitchen, large and private garden, clean bedrooms/bathrooms upstairs, a good collections of books/toys/games for kids. Easy access to North/South Wales, friendly town. All you need to ask for is the weather but we did have gorgeous sunshine during our holiday. May 2011.
  6. The cottage was beautiful oldie worlde - facilities excellent - lovely and friendly area - good for the dog as well. April 2011.
  7. This is a 16th century house with all mod.cons. Kitchen very well equipped. Our landlady was extremely helpful. There is a well-tended large back garden. Free car parking was on the street at the front of the house. Failing a space there, we found one in a nearby street. March 2011.
  8. Really well equipped - and because it was so old it was really quirky. Feb 2011.
  9. Excellent location, fabulous property with lovely character. Very well equipped. Luxury towels and bed linen. The furniture was of a very high standard, the beds obviously had good quality mattresses and bedding. Dec 2010.

  13. The person who owned the cottage met us there as we wanted to get in earlier than 4pm. She explained the use of the fire and central heating, we were given a contact phone number and address. There was additional information about the surrounding area, as well as local doctors etc... and walks. March 2010.
  14. It was ideal for myself and my family. Plenty of space for all of us to sit and eat as a family. The garden was both child and dog friendly. The open log fire was a warming feature and the cottage really warm. Jan 2010.
  15. Bags of ’olde’ character, but beautifully warm - even in a January cold snap. Jan 2010.
  16. Warm, cosy and full of character. Jan 2010.
  17. This was a wonderful place to stay. The owner was extremely helpful, the surroundings beautiful. Dec 2010.
  18. Lovely propery, very nice inside, good sized bedrooms and large kitchen/dining room. Large rear garden which the kids loved and was nice it was all enclosed. Great for large family holidays as we benefited from having 2 shower rooms both with toilets, which helped us get out and about earlier in the morning. Good local shops. Lovely unusual property, like a tardis as it was very big inside with a huge lovely garden. July 2009.
