Property Description

With outstanding views over the River Tay from its first floor living room, this secluded, spacious country house has been attractively furnished, and is set high in the hills (900 ft) on a 4,000-acre estate. Reached via tarmacked estate roads, visitors can enjoy wonderful walks from the doorstep whilst on holiday, and fishing can be arranged.
Good shopping, restaurants, and golf are to be found at Aberfeldy, 4 miles away, which also boasts the early 19th-century Aberfeldy Water Mill. Beautifully restored, it uses the power of the Urlar Burn to stone-grind oatmeal in the traditional way. Over Wade’s Bridge, which spans the River Tay, Castle Menzies stands as the former seat of the Clan Menzies and is a grand 16th-century tower house laid out in the form of a ‘Z’ shape. On the southern bank of Loch Tay at Kenmore, water skiing, river sledging, rafting and jet biking can all be tried at an outdoor pursuits centre, which also offers hill walking and cross country skiing.
Further to the north is Pitlochry, set amidst hills, with its two distilleries (one of which is Scotland’s smallest) and both offering tours showing how the fiery amber liquid is produced. Scotland’s famous Festival Theatre lies on the banks of the river with the huge Ben Vrackie (2733ft) as its backdrop, and here at the salmon ladder, nature’s most admired phenomenon, the salmon leap, can be witnessed as the annual migration of salmon takes place. Dunkeld, one of the area’s most delightful communities, is worth a visit to view its whitewashed houses and lovely cathedral, as well as Thomas Telford’s seven-arched bridge of 1809 which links the village to its sister community of Birnam.
Various castles dot the landscape in this area of Scotland, including the famous Balmoral Castle, which has been a royal residence for over 150 years, and boasts extensive grounds in which to enjoy country walks. Corgarff Castle is an austere tower house with an unusual star-shaped curtain wall and an eventful history, which has now been restored to resemble its days as a barracks. Shops 4 miles.

This property is close to Gleneagles where the 2014 Ryder Cup took place, come and play a round of golf all year round on this world-renowned course.

  2. I have been taking this lovely cottage for some years - I can think of no other holiday ’nest’ I would prefer - the views are unsurpassed, the solitude and quite location is superb.   3. You couldn’t imagine a more stunning backdrop for a family holiday. The house is massive with incredible views from all sides. The garden is big enough for the kids, with swings and picnic tables. We had a barbecue one day on the terrace, it was like feasting in Tuscany. There are walks directly from the house or access to a wealth of munros and corbetts, castles and lochs nearby. Don’t forget the family friendly waterfalls. The kids even got a ride on the sit on lawn mower from the friendly caretaker, which made their year! Thanks - we would recommend to everyone. May 2011.

A beautiful location, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, huge - much bigger than I had expected, comfortable - a great place for a family holiday, with all the facilities to make this very easy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this "cottage" to anyone. Minor comments for improvement - a soap holder in the shower would be useful, and a second shower in the upstairs bathroom would help families like mine who preferring showering to bathing.   7. The views are magnificent. The property is just far enough off the road to make it completely quiet but not so far off as to make trips into town for supplies difficult. The property is spacious and very well laid-out. April 2010.

  9. This is our 13th visit here. Some things have improved but we regret the removal of the shower from the upstairs bathroom - replaced with shelves which were not needed -1 shower between 4 bedrooms is not enough. Getting my husband in & out of the small bath with a sloping ceiling was difficult. Also, the settees upstairs should be replaced with seating for people less than 6ft 6ins tall! It is impossible to be comfortable on them. Otherwise, we loved it as always. Oct 2009.

  11. This is an house that you would be happy to stay in and not even venture out, the view from the upstairs lounge window is fantastic. The whole of the countryside comes to you, red squirrels, hares, stoats, pheasants, cows, deer and even buzzards and eagles . This is our second visit to Aodin. The house is in the most glorious location. Everything, furnishings, crockery even better than last year. Aug 2009.
