Property Description

Enjoying a peaceful, rural location with unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside, Annie’s Meadow Barn sits within 8 acres of its own meadows, offering complete seclusion and tranquillity. This detached stone barn, which dates back to the 18th century, has been converted into a spacious and comfortable holiday home, with the addition of a games room which features large glass doors opening onto the paved/barbecue area with spectacular views over the countryside. The lively old market town of Ashbourne is only 2½ miles away, offering antique shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. Carsington Water, 6 miles, is a superb windsurfing and sailing centre and has an area devoted to wildlife and nature conservancy. At the watersports centre, guests can hire (with tuition) kayaks, windsurfers, Canadian canoes and bicycles. Professional fly fishing is available to enable guests to try their hand at fishing this popular, well-stocked reservoir. Fine country walking is virtually on the doorstep, and the renowned Tissington and Middleton cycle trails are both close by. Wirksworth, the attractive market of Bakewell, famed for its pudding, and Matlock are all fascinating towns nearby. Matlock Bath, 6 miles, is popular as an inland resort, standing on the River Derwent amid lovely scenery, and offering boating, angling, bowls, tennis and cricket. Enjoy a day out at the National Tramway Museum, where visitors can enjoy the fun experience of trams from around the world. Magnificent Chatsworth House, 16 miles, boasts a famous collection of art treasures, as well as beautiful gardens. Haddon Hall, 13 miles, is England’s most complete and authentic medieval house, dating back to the 14th-century. One of Britain’s premier theme parks, Alton Towers, is also within easy reach. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Lots of wildlife, enjoyable holiday. July 2012.
  2. Its really hard to find and despite its supposed secluded-ness there is another house over the road. All in all it was fantastic value although it did take some time to find a half decent pub as many of the local boozers were chain pubs and fine dining. June 2012.
  3. We can not falt it in any way. We all had an excellent holiday. A lovely holiday home. May 2012.
  4. A lovely cottage with amazing view over fields filled with lambs (at least they were in spring), together with access to stables if required. Accessed by a lengthy, narrow lane (a 4x4 would be needed in the snow) it feels nicely isolated although it’s only actually about 10 minutes drive from Ashbourne. Inside the property is clean and with a good specification. I would definitely go back although it is worth mentioning that the downstairs bedroom is only separated from the living room by a door so those who want to sleep in should sleep upstairs. May 2012.
  5. Good location, we hired bikes at Carsington Water, walked around Dove Dale, saw Chatsworth House and did Heights of Abraham in Matlock. Loved the fields and security of the cottage, the kids loved just running around! Made use of the BBQ too. Close to local town of Ashbourne for essentials. Didn’t see the owl but quite sure we heard it. March 2012.
  6. Absolutely loved the barn though we did fid it tricky to locate as it was dark when we arrived. However, it was well worth the tricky start. It was simply amazing. We were devastated that we forgot to write an entry in the visitor’s book! We would love to return there at some stage, so that speaks volumes! Dec 2011.
  7. Those who enjoy a peaceful, rural break will cherish this property. Surrounded by the beautiful Derbyshire hills, Annie’s Meadow Barn oozes cosy charm and offers easy access to all parts of the Peak District. Nov 2011.
  8. Ideal location to explore the Peak District with the lovely town of Ashbourne right on your doorstep. The cottage has everything you need to complete your stay including great local walks for your dog. Oct 2011.
  9. The large field next to the house is a great playground for dogs (as long as there aren’t any sheep in it). The best local walk is up to the top of Madge Hill - quiet road or track the whole way, and great views from the top. Sept 2011.
  10. Downstairs bedroom and wet room excellent for wheelchair steps so no ramps required, excellent setting of Barn. Directions from company not very clear! May 2011.
  11. Beautiful cottage with superb views. Lovely garden for relaxing. April 2011.
  12. We were two families of four with a dog each staying in this property. The set out was perfect for us. The garden was brilliant for the dogs as it was fully enclosed with a huge field too for them to run around in. We have never stayed in a cottage before that has been so well equipped and so much thought had been given to the extras such as picnic bags, blankets and chairs! I would recommend this cottage, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. April 2011.
  13. Fabulous weekend had at Annies Meadow Barn, spacious lovely accommodation, would highly recommend it. Feb 2011.
  14. Good location. Feb 2011.
  15. Wonderful log burning stove made a focal point for the living room. Very well equipped house, helpful caretaker, local log man (R+J logs). Dec 2010.
  16. Very private. Nov 2010.
  17. Good layout, nicely furnished, good facilities, only thing that would have added to it would have been a dishwasher but appreciate that there is limited space in the kitchen and and therefore no room. Loved the wood burning fire! Oct 2010.
  18. It was very well laid out, excellent downstairs bedroom and bathroom facilities for our less able person. Sept 2010.
  19. Quiet, wonderful views from the property. Clean and welcoming. Sept 2010.
  20. A fabulous cottage with great facilities, we had a magical time there. Aug 2010.
