Property Description

Beautifully located within 3 acres of private gardens, paddock and orchards, this spacious detached Victorian home is peacefully situated in a spectacular rural area with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and western reaches of the Solent. Being set within an AONB, most of the surrounding land is National Trust, offering spectacular uninterrupted views over the sea and downland, including West High Down, Tennyson monument and Headon Warren - with its breathtaking views of The Needles. The holiday property makes an ideal choice for families, with plenty of indoor and outdoor entertainment, including badminton, croquet and other games. Although in a secluded area, amenities in Totland and Freshwater are only 5 minutes’ drive, offering shops, library, tearooms, indoor swimming-pool and pubs, and Alum Bay with its famous coloured sands, is about 15 minutes’ walk over the Downs. The historic sailing town of Yarmouth, set in the estuary of the River Yar, is about 10 minutes’ drive, and Colwell, Totland and the popular sandy beach at Compton are 5 minutes’ drive away. As well as the excellent walks from the house locally, there are also many tourist attractions to discover, including The Needles Park - one of the most popular attractions on the island, with chairlift, boat rides, coloured sands, lighthouse, amusements and glass making. Also within easy driving distance are Blackgang Chine, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, traditional pottery making, Calbourne water mill, various NT homes/gardens, vineyards, museums, wildlife centres, a zoo, pearl factory, Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Cowes/Yarmouth harbours. Outdoor pursuits include golf (nearby Freshwater), cycling, riding, sailing, fishing and diving. Shops 2 miles, pub a 1-mile walk over the Downs.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Beautiful location and the property itself has an air of’other worldly’. You expect Agatha Christie or Oscar Wilde to walk in at any minute. We loved it. But take a tin opener and check on how one is supposed to deal with the rubbish. (The actual instructions are not as written in handbook). June 2012.
  2. A fairly large rural 4 bed house set in an attractive garden with stunning views of Tennyson Down and the Needles end of the Isle of Wight great for a family holiday either beach, walking or visiting attractions. May 2011.
  3. Really excellent location and the house is especially suitable for people like us with small grand children and dogs to accommodate. Some people might find the galley style kitchen somewhat cramped especially if you have a house full but we were very happy as the house is not too smart therefore one is not worrying about the dogs and little ones causing damage. Sept 2010.
  4. Smashing garden, great for kids to "run free" lovely to have enough of everything to be able to cater properly, well equipped playroom a great asset. June 2009.
  5. Great home-from-home feeling very child-friendly well equipped. June 2009.
  6. The owners had been very thoughtful in providing plenty of games/toys/activities/books for everyone to use. The property itself was clean and in a beautiful location. July 2009.
  7. Ideal holiday cottage with wonderful loacation. July 2008.
  8. A lovely character cottage in an ideal location for walking and spectacular views of the sunset. Sept 2008.
  9. The atmosphere and style of the cottage is wonderful. Nov 2007.
