Property Description

Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point of the British mainland, is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of the Highlands. There are mountains, glens, forests, white coral sands and turquoise waters warmed by the gulf stream. The village is remote with few services, although a local hotel serves meals and there is a well-stocked convenience store with post office and petrol pumps. The detached holiday property stands in a sheltered valley approached by a rough, unmade road. The road from Corran Ferry is single track. An alternative route through Fort William, Lochailort and Moidart is 12 miles longer but offers better roads. Shop 3½ miles, hotel ½ mile, beach 1 mile, Isle of Mull car ferry 4 miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with toilet. Open-tread stairs to first floor: 2 double bedrooms, one (4ft) with additional single.

Electric heaters and electricity included. Freesat TV. DVD and small library. Electric cooker. Microwave. Garden chairs. Parking (2 cars). Natural water supply from spring. Two pets welcome, dogs must be kept on lead (crofting country).

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Great property if you want go walking and fishing. TV and DVD player not working but made us all chat and play board games. Oct 2012.
  2. Comfortable, clean and well appointed accommodation in a quiet, peaceful location. June 2011.
  3. Location was brilliant. House very well equipped. Some moaning people commented on lack of washing machine... so what! The sensible answer to that is, pack enough clothes to last the duration of the stay. May 2010.
  4. Location, loads of room, very well equipped, very clean. Oct 2009.
  5. It was in the middle of beautiful countryside, right back to basics. Fantastic place for serious walking and wildlife watchers. Oct 2009.
  6. Spacious enough for six people. Oct 2009.
  7. Very good accommodation, well located only let down by the fact that there was no washing machine. Sept 2009.
  8. A very comfy accommodation set in beautiful surroundings. May 2008.
  9. Allt na Mara is a fabulous location for a nature-focused holiday. Abundant wildlife is found right outside the house including birds and pine marten, and the Ardnamurchan peninsula itself is both wild and remote but beautifully rich is life too. The house feels like a well-loved family holiday home and while lacking some modern conveniences, is still very comfortable. May 2008.
  10. We have had a lovely holiday once again at Allt-na-Mara. Swam in the sea and saw two seals. A great hol. Thanks
  11. Second visit and still one of the best positions in Scotland. Aug 2006.
  12. Excellent for wildlife; golden eagle seal, sea otter, pine marten all visible nearby. May 2007.
  13. It’s set in a remote area of Scotland in a valley with beautiful landscape, the only neighbours were highland cattle and the local wildlife (a jam butty loving pine Marten often visited late at night). Nearby beaches are very clean with white sand and rock pools, with spectacular views and few people. Access by road is "entertaining", with many miles of single-track road and the last 400 yards of unmade track, however, it is precisely this remoteness that appealed to us. Ideal for those wishing to get away from it all, but don’t expect much in the way of local amenities. The local shop is well stocked with major brands, but has "typical" mon-sat 9am-5pm hours. Would advise that you stock up! The cottage had everything we needed plus a few extras, a DVD player and video player was provided along with a few films, there was also a selection of books and games for those not so sunny days. July 2006.
