Set within 5 acres on the fringe of Kielder Forest in the heart of the Northumberland National Park nestles this newly-built eco-friendly lodge. Using the latest green energy technology, Tarset Tor has been lovingly created from sustainably sourced cedar to offer unique, high quality ‘bunkhouse style’ accommodation ideal for the gathering of larger groups and extended families. Sprawled across one level this lengthy property is divided into six similarly proportioned rooms adjoined by a corridor at its rear. The open plan kitchen/living space is contemporary with a wood pellet stove being a cosy and welcoming feature. Its large hand-built dining table and benches becomes a sociable space with pool table by uncovering the wooden table top. Each of the four family bedrooms is identical with two sets of bunk beds; single size on the top and double on the bottom. At the far end of the property is a fresh and modern wet room with five separate cubicles; two x WCs, two x showers and an accessible cubicle with WC and shower. There are three basins in the communal area. Each bothy has a south facing veranda with furniture for relaxing. On site is a small coarse fishing pond with rod hire at £5. All bothys and the bunkhouse have free Wi-Fi with the bothys have Smart TV’s, Ipod docks, radios and CD players. An amazing area to spend a week or short break in the county that is reputedly the friendliest in England. A selection of activities can be arrange with the owner before or during your stay.

Employing a sustainable approach to tourism to preserve the beautiful Northumbrian landscape for future generations to enjoy is at the heart of the Bothy’s ethos. The dedicated owners have worked hard to keep the carbon footprint to a minimum by using renewable resources and buying locally. Using the latest in eco-technology there is a heating system derived from wood pellet boilers, electricity subsidised by solar energy and recycled newspaper cavity wall insulation.

The area on foot and by bike from a base that’s rooted in the countryside. The Bothy has a wetland and wooded meadow to encourage the proliferation of flora and fauna; here and in the nearby Kielder Forest, there are lots of opportunities to observe the local wildlife, including ospreys, wild goats, red squirrels and deer. Kielder Water and Kielder Forest Park have become a focus for outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate the region’s rugged terrain and outstanding opportunities for adventure. The Bothy is ideally situated for a wide range of activities, being in close proximity to Kielder mountain bike trails, the Reivers Cycle Route, 7Stanes network and River Tyne fishing, as well as the famous coast-to-coast byway, Pennine Way and a superb selection of golf courses.

The Bothy has contacts with many local activity providers and specialist instructors, and can create a tailored itinerary, including catering to suit individual requirements (extra fees apply).
