Choosing and comparing individual cottages has always been difficult, with the variety and differences between each cottage. To provide you with the most useful information, we have undertaken property grading, so that you can see easily the differences between all the cottages we offer, and so make the best choice for your holiday.
Each property is shown with a rating of 1 to 5 “key(s)”. This reflects a variety of quality elements, and provides a guide to the broad standards of each property. Regardless of the rating, you can always be assured that every property meets the minimum standards that we set for any cottage we advertise and that we monitor customer feedback carefully, re-inspecting properties when we think standards may be slipping.
As a simple guide, key ratings represent the following –
![]() |
an acceptable property with basic and adequate fixtures and fittings |
![]() ![]() |
a good level of property with practical fixtures and fittings making for a comfortable holiday cottage |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
a well-appointed property, with good quality fixtures, fittings and decoration for an enjoyable holiday |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
a welcoming, relaxing property with a high standard of quality, and attention to detail, throughout |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
the very best quality, with a high standard of furnishings and decoration, as well as the sorts of extras that go to make the best holiday atmosphere |
For the 2008 season, as we have continued to improve our service to you, we will be utilising the VisitBritain star grading scheme, and all appropriately inspected and graded properties will show a “star” grading. Star grading already applies to a large number of properties available for 2008, and is currently shown and explained in our 2008 brochure. However, to avoid confusion across the 2007 and 2008 seasons, we will show star gradings on this website from the end of December.
You can rest assured that both schemes ensure a high standard of accommodation quality.
